So many life and business lessons can be learnt from Sport. The recent AFL (Australian Football League) Grand Final Premiership was no exception. 3 stand out for me:
- Holding up the AFL Premiership cup is often the result of a lot of disappointment and criticism.
The coach was quickly criticised and rebuked through the club’s tough times. Coping strategies and building/rebuilding from these events is the mark of an effective leader. - So much of sustained and rich success is based around the personal touch that our (sporting or business) leaders have.
The coach wrote a personal letter encouraging each of his players during the season. - Success happens when there is a fair degree of risk taking.
The coach took the risk of playing a rooky (Marlon Pickett) in the Grand Final. The risk payed off handsomely.
These were the experiences of Damien Hardwick, coach of the AFL 2019 Premiership winning club Richmond.
The best leaders in both sport and business seem to have the knack of connecting closely with their team, bringing out the best in all stakeholders.
How Much More Effective Could Your Team Be?
How is your team really going? Achieving great wins or struggling, lacking enthusiasm and momentum? When did you last assess the ”health of your team”?
Find out where the dynamics of the team are preventing it from achieving a grand final winning level. We recommend you use one of Bridgeworks favourite tools: The Organisation & Team Health Check.
This assessment / benchmarking tool enables team members to measure their team or organisation unit in key areas such as leadership, relationships, environment & behaviour.
A great way to address the issue and to kickstart the transformation of your team’s performance is to run our TEAMFIX program.
At the end of this 3-day Intensive Workshop we see teams going from being dysfunctional to kicking brilliant goals worthy a a grand final win. It is designed to rapidly build and rebuild team effectiveness and typically you see immediate results
