In times of crisis like the covid-19 pandemic, many people tend to over-manage and under-lead. Yet, with the right attitude and leadership, we can turn a major crisis into an opportunity to build a stronger business. Indeed, it is a perfect time to act fast and unearth many hidden innovations and opportunities. As leaders, we need to be on the front foot, be proactive not reactive; we need to embrace the benefits of virtual communication.
Letting Covid-19 Kill Our Businesses Or Turning The Game Around?
Like you and many business leaders, I saw COVID-19 threaten to kill my business. The crystal ball was showing a grim picture indeed, with much of my usual business evaporating overnight. I could no longer conduct the face-to-face highly interactive workshops and residential programs that had been the lifeblood of my last 25 years in business.
Yet it is in crisis times that everyone looks for signs of good leadership, and for confidence support from a strong culture.
My thinking challenged the norm: “Now is not the time to pull the plug on leadership development and team collaboration. This is the time when leadership and teams must unite and be strong“.
These are times our true “Culture” surfaces. A time where our organisation’s Culture becomes the Compass that gives people direction and purpose. Your people may be geographically apart, working from a “home office” not designed for that purpose, but your people need to be Closer, Stronger and Faster than ever. And your leaders must be equipped for the many challenges they WILL face now and in the foreseeable future.
We all have a clear choice to make: How do we want to come out the other end of the Covid-19 crisis: Weak with diminished market influence? OR do we want to come out re-energised and strong? Continuing to develop strong leadership during crisis will make the difference!
Bridgework’s new Fight-Back Solutions: Inspiring Virtual Workshops
Clearly the market need was there, it was present everywhere around me. It was only the execution that had to change. So, why not run a virtual team process? In many ways, “virtual” may become the “new normal”, and not just during the current forced physical distancing.
With this insight firmly in mind, I challenged a couple of clients who had previously pulled the plug on a team development program due to COVID-19. Since then, Bridgeworks has run virtual team programs with great success – all from the living rooms of managers from all around Australia.
In crisis, leadership and collaboration are King and Queen. This is the prime objective of Bridgeworks’ “How to Build Leaders & Collaboration Virtually” series of customisable workshops.
- Dealing with COVID-19: Professional Team or Team of Professionals? (for lead teams and for teams we lead)
- Leading our own teams through crisis, generating hope and opportunity.
- Team Culture: A Compass to strength and exceptional performance
These programs use the powerful tools that have been the backbone of our programs; they combine them with the most interactive and engaging on-line meeting platforms.
